Stephanie Janét

My name is Stephanie Janét. I am a mother, writer, and advocate who learned the meaning of resilience through some of life’s hardest battles. My story and so much of the work I aim to do, is rooted in the extraordinary life of my daughter, Makayla. She taught me what it means to fight for tomorrow with your whole heart. Her strength, her handwriting, and her words, "Try My Hardest," now live at the center of everything I create.

I write about survival, motherhood, chronic illness, medical trauma, faith, grief, and the fierce hope that keeps us moving even when the road feels impossible. My memoir, Trying My Hardest, is the story of navigating Lupus, kidney failure, emergency surgeries, a high-risk pregnancy, a child with complex congenital heart disease, and the long fight toward a heart transplant and beyond. It’s a story about a little girl who kept pushing toward her goals, even while fighting for her life, and a mother who refused to give up on her.

Today, I share our story to bring comfort, connection, and courage to others walking through medical crises, caregiving, or deep loss. Through my writing and my organizations, I hope to give families the tools and the support I wish I’d had.

The Mighty Heart Warrior Project was created in honor of Makayla to help families with children at elevated risk for cardiac events. Our mission is simple: make sure no family ever looks back with the “what-ifs” that haunted me; the questions of whether better access, training, or equipment could have changed an outcome.

We provide:

CPR certification and ongoing recertification

Funding for defibrillators for families and communities

Resources for caregivers and medically fragile children
